Spending Quality Time With Clients: Minutes That Can Be Priceless
The public mental health system has been impacted by government and insurance requirements for reimbursement of services and passing accreditation audits. Due to these guidelines there is a large amount of time spent doing paperwork in addition to large caseloads. This allows all mental health professionals little time to effectively develop therapeutic relationships.
The presentation focuses on how to develop quality therapeutic relationships despite having so little time with each client. Specific approaches with clients that promote trust, rapport and connection with healthy clinical boundaries will be reviewed.
Techniques will be presented to help clinicians mentally refocus on our clients and the issues being discussed if we get distracted by the requirements of our jobs.
There will be a brief comparison and contrast of the disease model and recovery model of mental illness and how they differ in their impact on the therapeutic relationship.
