Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to Treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in an Immigrant Mexican Female: A Case Study Report

This presentation will focus on the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a Spanish-speaking immigrant Mexican female adult. Therapy and assessment were conducted in Spanish and several cultural modifications were made to treatment. Using the case study report as an example, the main objective of this presentation is to discuss the treatment of PTSD in Latino adults generally and cultural issues that should be considered in the presentation, assessment, and diagnosis of PTSD. We will also present outcomes of several measures that were administered to facilitate diagnosis and monitor treatment progress and outcome. Implications of the results will be discussed.
