Maria Martinez, MSW is a Psychiatric Social Worker with Los Angeles County, Department of Mental Health – Emergency Outreach Bureau. She is currently working for countywide School Threat Assessment Response Team (START). Secondary assignments include the Los Angeles Police Department-Systemwide Mental Assessment and Response Team (SMART), the Department’s Psychiatric Mobile Response Teams (PMRT), which respond to psychiatric emergencies, barricaded suspects, and other high profile situations, and the Crisis Negotiations Team. Ms. Martinez is also a member of the Department’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) which provides immediate response to disasters or mass casualty incidents in Los Angeles County.
Ms. Martinez graduated from California State University Long Beach Graduate School of Social Work in 2006. Ms. Martinez is a reserve Deputy Probation Officer for Los Angeles County. She is currently a third year doctoral student in clinical psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute with an interest in forensic psychology. She is a member of the National Association of Social Work, Latino Professional Network Association Los Angeles, and American Psychological Association. She is also a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.
