Dr. Michael de Arellano is Professor and Director of the Mental Health Disparities and Diversity Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is the director and founder of the NCVC Hispanic Outreach Program – Esperanza (HOPE) and the Community Outreach Program – Esperanza (COPE) Clinics, in which therapists provide empirically-supported assessment and treatment to abused children and their primary caretakers in their homes, schools, or other community locations that are convenient to the families. His work focuses on providing evidence-based, trauma-focused services to traditionally underserved populations, with a particular emphasis on providing culturally-competent treatment to trauma-exposed Latino children and their families.
