Teresa Chapa, Ph.D., MPA is the Senior Policy Advisor for Mental Health with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Minority Health. As staff lead, Dr. Chapa develops and promotes policies, programs, and practices to eliminate behavioral health disparities and achieve overall health equity for the underserved. Key projects focus on building a diverse, multidisciplinary, and culturally and linguistically competent workforce, leadership development, and promotion of integrated health and behavioral care. She develops and supports new initiatives, innovative solutions, and demonstration projects that can inform policies and practices for improving behavioral and overall health.
Dr. Chapa is an active member of the HHS Behavioral Health and Primary Care Integration Sub-committee, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) National Integration Academy Council Steering Committee, and has volunteered with several national, state and county level on advisory commissions, committees and boards, including Mental Health America, Montgomery County Collaboration Council for Children, Youth and Families and the State of Maryland Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council.
